  • Why Kayla?

From day 1 Kayla has given everything she has to improve. She has always been coachable and allows the coaches to push her to be better. Though she may not hide her facial expressions well she always shows up and puts in the work regardless of the workout. Even when her accountability buddy moved away she did not waiver. Kayla continues to improve, lose weight, get stronger, and shows no signs of slowing down.

  • Kayla’s CrossFit Story

    I got started with CrossFit 8 Mile a week after my son’s first birthday. I was going through the pictures from his party in January and didn’t recognize myself. It made me sad because I’ve been an athlete my entire life.  I began to scroll Instagram and put in the search bar “gyms near me”. CrossFit 8 Mile is about 5 minutes away. I scanned the Instagram page and some of the tags they were posted in. I instantly closed out because the workouts looked so hard 😂and there was NO WAY I could do that. Days later, I sent it to my friend Tamika and she insisted we try it. I called the number and got a response from Nick. I was expecting to be hounded to buy a membership over the phone and didn’t get that at all, in fact I had no idea he was the owner with how polite he was. He told us to come in and try it out. I was sold from that moment. 

  • Why do you continue to do CrossFit

     I’m going to start with the coaches. Each and every coach is amazing! Each coach has helped me to understand the movements, makes sure I’m doing things correctly without judgment and encourages me. They are so patient & understanding. I continue to do CrossFit because I see my growth. I am pushed past my level of comfort which is the reason I am growing. I started CrossFit not being able to do 10 full minutes of a workout. I originally started because I wanted to lose weight and get back active, I continue now because I want to be better. I can’t forget the people I see every single day, they are the biggest reason to keep coming back.  Every class I’ve been to I’ve met some of the MOST amazing people, I literally feel like CrossFit 8 Mile is a “no person left behind” environment!

  • Favorite movements  

My favorite movements now would have to be stretching, deadlifts, bike erg, dballs, push presses and box jumps (I’ve had box jump anxiety for years. 2 months into CrossFit I was jumping without hesitation). 

  • Least favorite movement

RUNNING, ECHO BIKE, and plank holds.                                                                                           

Goals

      I started off with a goal of losing weight, I lost 26 lbs and still would like to lose more but that’s no longer the focus. My goal is to be better not only physically but mentally. I would like to challenge myself more and gain more confidence. Eventually lift much heavier, take some barbell classes, be able to run without limitations, and to get comfortable being uncomfortable. Thank you to CrossFit 8 mile for welcoming me & helping me achieve these goals!
