Why Lisa?

Lisa is an OG! Lisa has been with us since we opened in late 2013. She has gone through as many changes as our gym has. She has really dedicated herself to work for the change that she wanted to see in herself. She has made her goals and the actions to achieve those goals a priority. She has dropped 6 sizes! Lisa is always coachable and works hard. She pushes herself and doesn’t rely on the coaches to do it for her. Lisa recently acceptable a challenge that was presented to her and when that challenge ended, she keep that steam going! She took inspiration and turned it into internal motivation. Lisa is CrossFit 8 Mile’s December Athlete of the Month.

In the beginning..

I had joined a couple of gyms prior to becoming part of the 8 Mile community. I even had a personal trainer at one of them! I worked with him for three months or so until I was off on my own again, with little motivation. I wasn’t knowledgeable on how to use most of the workout equipment, only the equipment my trainer had taught me how to use. I became bored with what I was doing as it was the same, exact thing every time I went. Most of the time I kept to myself, occasionally making casual conversation with others. Boring!

FROM THIS POINT FORWARD, IT ONLY GETS BETTER …..I PROMISE!!!!

I worked with Kelley Lappan three years ago, so I would see her on a regular basis. Every time I spoke with her we would talk about our kid(s)…life in general. I would talk about how I needed to join a gym to get active again, every time Kelley would mention CrossFit 8 Mile. She had only good things to say like how great the coaches were, how her brother as well as his wife worked out there and overall it was a great place to workout! This conversation took place more than just one time…lol! One day I decided to just do it! Kelley referred me to Nick, he coached me through my on-ramp (come to find out not to long ago, I was Nick’s first on-ramp at 8 Mile!). I felt good as I completed the on-ramps. I wasn’t very intimidated as I kept in mind that I was just beginning to learn and if I took it seriously enough I would only get better. After one year of dedication I noticed significant changes, not only with the way I felt though with the way my body began to change…of course all for the better! I’m proud to say that I’ve dropped 6 sizes! I’ve made great relationships with the people at 8 Mile and continue to meet good people! Never would I have believed that a gym would be a place I would WANT to go to everyday, in fact I looked forward to it! It’s fun (most of the time…when I’m not almost dying) and healthy for my mind and body. As I began progressing with Olympic lifting (I’d prefer lifting over running any day) it’s then I really did believe that CrossFit was one of the best things I had done with my life! The community, the WOD’s, the coaches, the PERSEVERANCE, the dedication, the energy, the sweat, the atmosphere, and the friends….you’ll find all of this at 8 Mile! Whether I’m having a good day or a bad day before I get to the gym, when I leave the gym I ALWAYS feel better!

Present Day

After almost three years, I finally hit a PR of #103 with my Snatch, which was exciting! One day I’d like to reach a PR of #110 or #120. Before CrossFit I didn’t know how to do a handstand or a rope climb…now I CAN! I’d also like to be more comfortable with box jumps. At times, the box can be intimidating, I don’t really know why with this one….for heaven sakes IT’S JUST A BOX. I need to practice the things I’m not comfortable with, even the things I am comfortable with! If it wasn’t for the coaches I have now and the coaches I’ve had in the past, I really don’t know if I’d be able to accomplish “CrossFit things” today. I definitely don’t see myself slowing down anytime soon! JJust. Keep. Moving….most importantly, moving forward!J See you at the box![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
