Here’s why you have a coach:
In today’s world, there’s an overwhelming amount of information. You know you can’t do it all, yet so much of it looks appealing—whether it’s the latest diet, supplements, workout programs, or even those daily WODs.
But here’s the truth: trying to do everything can actually hold you back. I’ve been there too!
We’ve all heard about overtraining and fear getting injured. But not enough people talk about the optimal amount of training—just like there’s an optimal amount of food to eat.
If you do too little, progress will be slow. But too much training can have the same effect.
We choose CrossFit for our group training because it strikes the right balance—not too much, not too little. Yet, even with the intensity of CrossFit, some people are tempted to push for more. Maybe adding a “recovery run” or squeezing in multiple workouts in a day.
Here’s the thing: more isn’t better. Better is better.
That’s why you have a coach. They’re your guide.
At CrossFit 8 Mile, our coaches aren’t here to tell you the bare minimum. They’re here to guide you to what’s optimal for YOU.
Every 3-4 months, we want to meet with you one-on-one to check in. We’ll assess your progress, review your goals, and give you a tailored plan moving forward.

What we don’t want is for you to guess.
We don’t want you to jump on the latest fad diet because you heard someone else talking about it. We don’t want you trying extreme challenges because they’re trending online (fun fact: drinking a gallon of milk a day was a CrossFit trend in 2011—we didn’t buy into that one!). And we don’t want you following someone else’s program just because it works for them. Your training should be specific to you, even in a group setting.
That’s why you have a coach.
They’re your filter.
So next time you see a workout that looks tempting and think, “I should add that after class tomorrow!”—ask your coach if it fits your goals. Trust me, I’ve learned this the hard way!
