Your Crossfit Story:
I have tried a lot of different classes and gyms, but always felt out of place. After talking to a friend about 8 Mile, I was assured it would be somewhere I was welcomed and accepted as a plus sized athlete who needed modifications, and that friend was absolutely correct! My first day I remember Mark saying “you’re going to fit in well here” which, for someone who never really felt comfortable in athletic spaces, meant a lot. I absolutely loved the workouts right away, and was happy to see that even modified they challenged me.
Why Do You Continue to do Crossfit?
While CrossFit has absolutely been the main driver of weight loss and muscle gain, which were goals of mine in starting, I think what keeps me motivated and coming back is the amount of energy the workouts give, the joy it brings, and the community and friendships I’ve built while here. I remember thinking “how will I have the energy to work out when I’m so tired all the time?” before I started, but it’s had quite the opposite effect. I have more energy than ever, and I find I can just move around in my day to day so much easier. It’s even given me the energy and strength to try new active hobbies, like mountain biking, which I’m super grateful for! Combined with the incredible coaches and community, it’s a place I absolutely love to be, even when the workouts are difficult or I don’t feel like doing them.
Favorite Movements:
My favorite movements are rowing, clean and jerks, and sled pushes.
Least Favorite Movements:
My least favorite movements are deadlifts and thrusters.
Goals:
I’d love to master double unders and pull ups! I’m also excited to continue on my health journey, and keep seeing what new cool things my body can do when I train and practice.
