Time To Get Back On The Horse

TIME TO GET BACK ON THAT HORSE

The Christmas trees and stockings have been put away, and the slew of holiday parties have ended – so why are our grocery carts still full of soda, cookies and treats? The holidays are over, and it is time for normal life to resume.

Most of us have probably set goals for 2019. Whether gaining our first muscle up or losing those pesky 10 pounds is our goal, we can all follow the same path to achieve them.

Rather than jumping headfirst into an unrealistic lifestyle change, take things one day at a time. Start by being consistent with gym attendance and scaling back on intensity from what you were use to to prevent injury. Be patient and give your body a chance to adapt. Consider packing your gym bag the night before so there are no excuses after a long workday. Prioritize your workouts and you’ll be sure to see improvements in your performance.

Our recent snowy and cold weather is a great reason to start cooking more meals at home. Meal prep the leftovers and bring them to work instead of going out to eat for lunch. Preparing your meals and snacks ahead of time will make healthy eating easier. FAIL TO PLAN, PLAN TO FAIL.

As CrossFitters, we tend to be hard on ourselves and can feel like we aren’t improving when we actually are. Look back at the goals you set for 2018. Did you achieve them? If so, be sure to take time to celebrate your accomplishments, and then set bigger, exciting new goals for the upcoming year. If your goals were not met, what can you change this year to achieve them? Rather than setting huge goals that can feel too daunting to achieve, consider breaking the goal up into manageable segments that can be met in succession to keep you motivated.

We all deserve time off to celebrate and enjoy the season. A break can even be good for us. But it’s what we do the other 11 months of the year that defines our lives and gives us the success stories we can be proud of. Remember, you don’t have to go to gym. You don’t have to eat healthy. YOU GET TO.

Get back to the grind! It’s not easy to get started back up, but once you do you’ll ask why you ever stopped!

Stay involved in gym events and the community to stay engaged mentally and physically.
