Effort.Is.A.Choice.

Nobody can make you work harder. No one can decide for you how much intensity you will bring. Nobody can dial up how much concentration you put into something. Nobody can alter how present you decide to be in the moment. Effort is a choice.

There are no wizards. No coach can wave a magic wand and make things happen. There’s no hocus pocus spell to make things happen. It takes work. Work by the athlete. No coach is on top forever. There’s no one way to train and approach everybody.

Athletes stay on top. Athletes put in the work. Athletes put in the effort. Coaches help facilitate the process.

Decide.

Establish your reality. Figure out what you want in correlation to what you are willing to put in.

“I want to eat pizza and beer but lose 40lbs.”

Not going to happen.

“I want to stand on the podium at Worlds but party like a rockstar”

Not going to happen.

“I want to be closer with my family” but you’re constantly on your smart device while around your family.

Not going to happen.

Effort is a choice.

Some of the most gratifying things in life are accomplishing things you’ve worked hard towards to achieve.

You’ve worked the last four years and now you have that diploma. You’ve busted your butt for 8 years and now you got that promotion. You’ve been doing two-a-days, weighing and measuring your food and the official just put that gold medal around your neck. You’ve lost sleep and questioned decisions for 24 years! And your child just got married to the love of their life, or opened a business, or had a child, started a charity.

It’s the same moment where you exhale. Pause. And realize it was all worth it.

Effort in any facet of life is a choice.

If you want it and it’s worth it to you, put in the effort.
