Flipping Stones

Pursue Whats Under the Rock

Every person has taken some level of a psychology class, whether in high school or college. There we learn the basic concept of Type A and Type B personalities. Regardless of types a lot of people want a change in their life. All to different degrees. Few people are happy with their life as it is in this moment.

I’m lucky enough to have people that have already decided that they want to make a change. People don’t come to CrossFit 8 Mile by accident. They make the conscious and physical decision to get in their car and drive to 31745 8 Mile road and walk into our doors. To some degree they are not happy and want to do something about it. From there everybody has a different level of motivation and commitment. Some are ready to do whatever it takes and are all in. A lot of people want to work hard at one aspect but not every aspect. The rest want to believe that just showing up and going through the motions will be enough.

If you told people there’s a thousand stones in a field and under 1 of those rocks is a million dollars. Everybody would rush to that field and start turning over rocks. The “Inspired” people will turn over a small number of rocks, throw their hands up and say “ugh I’ll never find it. What’s the point. I quit”. Their inspiration isn’t enough to outlast the effort needed. The “Motivated” will last longer then most. They turn over a lot of stones. They won’t be discouraged by empty findings. They’ll rejoice with small rewards and keep flipping. But they’ll stop before ever finding that million dollar stone. Though they will be happy and satisfied when they look back at the work they’ve put in, where they’ve come from and what they’ve found from flipping all the stones. They will be happier then when they started.

Now for the “Committed”. They will have the relentless pursuit to find that one stone that they are looking for. They leave no stone unturned. No matter how light or how heavy those rocks may be, they will over turn every single one. They will ask for help, they will do it in adverse conditions. They may slow down from time to time but they will not stop the search until they find the million dollar stone that they believe so immensely in. They are the 1%.

The question everyone needs to ask themselves is which one are you? What stone are you looking for? What will truly make you happy and are you ready to do the things that you can control to achieve it? No one else can tell You if it’s worth it or not. No one has the right to tell you it’s dumb or stupid. It’s your goals. Just be real with yourself with what will make you happy and work until it happens!
