CrossFit 8 Mile’s

Ninja Recognition

Why Kayla?

Kayla Geffert is an honest, hard worker that consistently puts in the work. She never complains when a workout is hard, she just asks for more. She always accepts and rises to the challenges presented to her. From partnering up in local competitions or a daily tasks.

This carries over in to her daily life. Kayla currently a firefighter with Farmington Hills Fire Department and has passed the written exam for her paramedic license in pursuit of a full-time career firefighter job.

Her Story:

I joined CrossFit 8 Mile after graduating college a year and a half ago. Graduating ended my basketball career, so I needed to seek out a better workout that would push me to become stronger as I pursued a career in firefighting. Solo-workouts were foreign and unmotivating because I was used to having a team by my side. I knew that my workouts were no longer for a game, but for something more important: my brothers and sisters in my department and the community. The idea I had of CrossFit came only from what I saw on tv, leaving me intimidated before joining CrossFit 8 mile, and though I stumbled through the first workout, I was hooked. Everyone was so encouraging and welcoming, I knew this was the gym I needed!

Why Kayla CrossFits:

I CrossFit because I need to be challenged, enjoy learning new movements, and love accomplishing hard workouts with others. CrossFit keeps me healthy both physically and mentally in a way that alternative workouts can’t compete with.

Favorite Workout: “Murph”

“I enjoy the energy and atmosphere that this workout brings to the space. While we know the suffering that is about to occur, we do it anyway in honor of something larger than our own discomfort. I think there is something powerful in that.”

Least Favorite Workout: Anything gymnastics

Goals:

My ultimate goal is to improve my fitness—for my career, my mental state, my body, and my ability to operate in everyday life. As a firefighter, I need to be my best, especially when someone is having their worst day… A strict handstand push-up would be nice, too [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” css_animation=””][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”19253″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_outline” qode_css_animation=””][vc_column_text]
