The Ocean of Chronic Disease
I am many things to many people. Husband, father, son, brother, coach, trainer, mentor, disciple, firefighter, paramedic, and the list goes on. I am blessed enough to own and operate a CrossFit affiliate as well as being a full time, professional, firefighter and paramedic
I truly have the best of both worlds because I get to help people on both ends of the spectrum of health and wellness. If you’ve ever had more than one conversation with me you’d know I love analogies. As a firefighter and paramedic I respond to calls of emergency. That can range from car accidents, to heart attacks, diabetic emergencies, structure fires, to cardiac arrest. The people that call 911 are looking for a life raft. They are drowning and they need help now! I see that role as a lifeguard. Standing by, surveying the landscape, jumping in when someone is struggling to stay alive rather then thrive.
As a strength and conditioning coach, especially CrossFit, I get to help people that have decided to do something about their current situation. I get to teach people how to swim before they have to tread deep waters. They come to us so they can learn how to save them self from ever having to call 911 for preventable diseases. In 2012, according to the CDC 117 million people had one or more chronic health condition!
Every day you hear about stories of success and transformations through proper diet and exercise. Which is great and we need more of it! What you don’t hear is all the patients that go in and out of the ER with preventable chronic diseases. High blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease….and continues. These are all serious life threatening conditions that can be prevented from ever happening through living a life of proper nutrition and exercise.
Everyone that’s reading this is most likely already on path to thriving in a life or proper health. I want you to be that person that extends this information to people around you. Everybody knows someone that is looking for answers. They won’t find it in fad diets or infomercial gimmicks. Be their lead to information that can stop them from going down the road of endless daily medications and constant doctor appointments.
Be someone’s lifeguard before they need a life raft.
