Why Lisa?

Lisa is quiet and unassuming. Lisa works hard. Lisa shocks herself on a daily basis. Lisa trusts the coaches, the programming and the belief that consistent day in and day out hard work will lead her to accomplishing her short and long term goals. She finds ways to get in the work whether it be 5am or 7:30pm. She never mopes or complains. She is always a joy to have in class and always gives her all. Regardless of the challenge presented before her on the whiteboard, she gives her best effort…..Oh and she loves workout shirts with quotes! It’s her superhero cap.

Lisa’s Story

I’ve always been more on the athletic side – I was a cheerleader in high school and I started teaching step aerobics and cardio kickboxing at Fitness USA in my early twenties. Then I started having babies!! Three to be exact and pretty close together (10, 8 and 7). There wasn’t much time for working out while they were toddlers. A few years ago I started working out at home with Jillian Michaels DVDs, Insanity, HIIT workouts, etc. I would try to be consistent but after awhile there just wasn’t any motivation. Last year I decided that I was ready for a new challenge! I first heard of Crossfit 8 Mile from seeing Libby and Casey’s shirts when our sons played baseball together. So, I looked the gym up – 2 minutes from my house and there was a 5:00am class, it was like a calling, lol!! I bugged Nick to fit me in as quickly as possible (sorry Nick!) for my elements classes. I have to be honest, I had never touched a barbell before and after elements my first thought was, I must be crazy and I will never remember the difference between all those moves! But, I decided to take the plunge and have been hooked ever since!

What inspires and motivates me?

I want to be healthy for my family so exercising and eating right are at the top of my list of to-dos. Working out is like a hobby for me, it’s my “me” time and I love challenging myself. CrossFit 8 Mile is a very special community to be a part of. Each and every coach here motivates me to push myself. I second guess myself all the time on my ability so it’s great to have them there telling me to add more weight or go for real pull-ups! The members are fantastic too – it’s great to be in a place where everyone is there for similar reasons and everyone encourages each other during classes to keep going right at the time you might be ready to give up. I’m really thankful that I found a gym community like this one where the members are welcoming and the coaches are all great at what they do.

Goals

I like to set short term goals for myself, like stringing together toes to bar, being consistent with double unders or beating Mike and Scott on the rower (just kidding guys!!! I’d settle for narrowing the gap, haha!). Once a goal is achieved I set a new one and trust the process – one day I will get there. And who knows, maybe one day do a beginners level competition.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
