The time of year where most of us ask ourselves, “Am I going to sign up for The Open?” Some of you may be thinking even, “What is The Open?”

Let me educate some of you that may not know. The CrossFit Open began in 2011 as an all inclusive way to begin to find the “Fittest on Earth”.  “But Coach, I’m not going to The Games….”  I know 99.5% of us are not! For the .5% its about going to Madison, WI to be crowned “Fittest on Earth”. For the rest of us it’s about so much more.

  • Challenging yourself above the norm.
  • Giving a little extra purpose in your daily efforts of training
  • Gym community
  • Compare your fitness to 2016!
  • Compare your fitness to you demographic worldwide (age, sex, occupation)
  • Theres an RX & a Scaled version. All and any ability levels can participate.
  • Accept a challenge of being uncomfortable so when it happens outside our four walls you’ll be prepared.
  • It’s the Friday programmed WODs anyway…..so sign up!

Reasons not to do the 2017 CrossFit Open:

  • ………::crickets::……..

At 8 Mile we program the CrossFit Open workouts for all classes on Friday’s. Like you, we won’t know until Thursday night when they are released. Every Friday evening we do “Friday Night Lights” at 6pm where we encourage everyone to come and throw down for the Open workouts. We pick (volunteer) two athletes each week from any ability level to throw down head to head under the spot lights . Now this may sound scary or intimidating but its an amazing atmosphere and is absolutely electric! It’s create highlights and lasting memories. Like Stacy Truax getting her first handstand push up! Nicole Perian getting her first bar muscle up. Else Marriot standing up a clean with :01 to spare to go into the next stage of 16.2! Or one of my favorite, Steve Cramer getting a handstand push up surrounded by his parents, wife and kids! Those are the things I think of when The CrossFit Open comes up. It starts February 25th!

I’ll make it super simple guys click here–>http://games.crossfit.com
